Free Ride

Karis has decided Guatemalans know a lot about easing their loads when it comes to transporting their children around. It is typical here to use a large piece of fabric called a corte to tie on your back to support your children. We have seen newborns and toddlers alike being carried around on their back by their mothers or older siblings. Karis decided she thought that would be a good idea and so we made our own pack for her doll. She sure is a quick learner when it comes to mimicking cultural norms here in Guatemala and I think her doll liked the free ride as well. Karis is learning many new things here and picking up Spanish quickly as well. Arbol=tree, con permiso= excuse me, las estrellas= the stars, and la luna= the moon to name a few. Yesterday at her preschool they had a pinata as part of celebrating their last week of the school year. The Guatemalan school year runs from Jan-Oct, but she will be going to "summer school" for one month starting in November. Karis and Kaden are both really enjoying Guatemala and Kaden is already becoming a great "futbol=soccer" player (his favorite thing is kicking, throwing, and dribbling any kind of ball he can find) "que calidad" no (that means How cool, no?) just a little Guatemalan slang for you. Love to you all from the Pfaffinger gang
