One of SEPAL's values as a mission organization is to build partnerships and alliances with other evangelical organizations. One of these partnerships is with the Central American Mission (CAM) which first came to Guatemala in 1899. Jeff and Marilee Nelson are two SEPAL missionaries living in the northwest region of the country called Huehuetenango, and who work with Dave and Helen Ekstrom, two CAM missionaries in an effort to motivate and train local indigenous pastors and leaders in the area of Bible education. Dave and Helen Ekstrom both grew up as missionary kids themselves, David's family arriving in Guatemala in 1924, and Helen's family to Paraguay in 1921. One interesting thing I've learned in talking with them, (Max), is that Helen was a friend and schoolmate with Jim Elliot at Wheaton College! They've been living in Guatemala for over the last 50 years and in that time the Lord has blessed them in many ways, but perhaps the most notable has been in their ability to learn other indigenous languages. Their most recent ministry development was the completion and dedication of the Bible in the Chuj language in July 2007. One of the challenges after a new Bible Translation project has been finished is for people to come in behind the project and help in training and discipleship to teach people how to read and study the Bible for themselves. Both the Nelson's and the Ekstrom's have since the Bible dedication been using the
Megavoice, a small handheld device similar to an iPod that can record and play audio tracks using solar power. This has been an effective way to share the Bible with people in the villages who may or may not be able to read. These pictures were taken in a recording studio that the Ekstrom's and Nelson's have set up for the purpose of now recording the Bible in audio form on the Megavoice in Chuj an

d Q'onjobal. Ambrosio and Ernesto are two young men in their early 20's who are helping with the recordings in both languages. Ambrosio is Chuj, and Ernesto is Q'onjobal and the Lord is using them in a powerful way to bring the gospel message to their villages. Please pray for these two young men who are also working to try and put themselves through Bible classes at Berea, a local Bible training institute in Huehuetenango.
