CECAM - Center for Missions Training

This is an aerial picture of CECAM, the Center for Missions Training here in the northwest part of the country called Huehuetenango.  Pastors, field missionaries and church leaders come here to take classes in missions with the goal of teaching and motivating their churches to consider their part in the Great Commission.  The center is a collaborative effort among many churches in Guatemala and SEPAL contributes to the ministry through teaching.  This is where I (Max) will possibly have an opportunity to teach some material on pastoral discipleship in the future.  The picture on the right is from the parade of nations at a recent graduation ceremony where 9 participants were commissioned and prayed for.  Those pictured in front of the world-map below are Guatemalans who are now being sent out from their local congregations all over the world.  There is a current trend for Guatemalan missionaries to be sent overseas to traditionally closed countries where the gospel has made little inroads.  The people in this photo are from indigenous communities in Huehuetenango and just this month have returned from spending nearly four months in Argentina ministering to an unreached poeple group.  Pray for them as they return to their churches that they may use their cross-cultural missions experience to challenge the local church in Huehuetenango to a deeper commitment to discipleship and missions.
